I quit Octopath ~15 hours in and have never looked back.īoth games have flaws, largely the combat mechanics are setup for some interesting skill use and variation, but not well executed in either case. Not full blown after credits content.Ĭurrently playing Xenoblade 2 and well over 100 hours in(much of that time is poking around doing optional stuff though). It's more akin to the last challenges in like FF7 or FF8. Octopath doesn't have a particularly great post game. I played just under 100 hours of Octopath. The graphics are splendid and the OST here is also phenomenal. The combat system is one of the best turn based systems ever imo. It's super open ended and the fact it lets you tackle the world however you want is super refreshing. The chapter structure in the games are largely identical bar 2-3 chapters of 40 (and those are great chapters granted) so it can feel repetitive but it personally didn't bother me. In addition when you complete a character path it opens up more quests that help expand the games lore and flesh out secondary characters. It doesn't tell any wildly interesting stories though I think as short min stories they work well enough and the characters are largely likeable. Octopath is a traditional JRPG with an interesting structure. It has an insane amount of content and the season pass is an amazing value. It has a fun world to explore but the mechanics are really bone headed at times and it is poorly streamlined. To get the most out of the game you have to be willing to play all the characters instead of just Rex. But it's charming in a way too, (well the big tits aren't but the banter is) The combat system is obtuse as fuck but if you take the time to learn it it feels fucking great. That said, this shit is like, you are gonna roll your eyes at all the big tits and dumb lines and often times stupid character comments. Xenoblade is like a really shitty shonen anime with a surprisingly likeable cast of characters. or Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate :P
